I’m typing this post with my left pinky, the only part of my body that isn’t aching from attending my new boot camp and following up with an hour of Zumba.
No, not really. I am a bit sore in places, but really, I’d feel cheated if I didn’t have any soreness. It’s boot camp. If it’s not working muscles that you don’t usually work, it’s not doing its job.
It was my first time at this new camp that had come highly recommended by a few members of the moms’ club. I have to say that I was surprised by the turnout: about a dozen women of all ages plus one guy. The most amazing thing? None of them have had any… shall we say surgical alteration? In a town where silicone and Botox are as common as massive SUVs, that’s a shock. Clearly, this camp is attended by people who believe in hard work over shortcuts. There’s something to be said for that.
The class includes a lot of circuit training: obstacle courses, cardio intervals and good old-fashioned classics like push-ups. When I was finished, I felt good. Even today, barring some spot soreness, I still have that satisfying my-body-has-done-something feeling that I get from a good workout.
Will I go every Saturday? It’s definitely worth consideration, at least until the early morning weather once again becomes running friendly. Go ahead, call me a wimp for not running in the morning chill, but because our winters are so short I just don’t have the proper wardrobe for outfitting myself against <35 degree temperatures. I’ll be sticking with alternate workouts or (god forbid) the treadmill for the coming weeks.
What’s your alternate plan for winter weather workouts?
