If you met me in real life, you’d quickly realize that I rarely wear makeup. Sure, I’ll use a bit of eyeliner in the morning, but shadows, foundation and blush? Uh, how often do I attend weddings?
It wasn’t until I spotted the expiration date on my mineral makeup that I realized that I was due for a change. Was it really possible that I was still using makeup that expired four years ago? And if that’s when it expired, when did I buy it?
That’s when it hit me: my eye shadow predates my child. This can’t be good.
How often should you change your eye makeup?
- Mascara: every 4-6 months
- Eye liner: every 4-6 months
- Eye shadow: up to 12 months
Needless to say, this has started a quest for new cosmetics. The but-I-hardly-wear-it part of me hates to spend the money, but the expiration-date-obsessive part of me knows that I have no choice. The last thing I want is to end up with an eye infection from pushing my cosmetics half a decade past their prime.
So I’m looking at this as an opportunity: a new look to go with my new hair. Maybe this time I’ll have the good sense to replace the old stuff before the boy enters middle school.
