When I saw the headline on WebMD, “Is Drinking Wine a Key to Antiaging?” I had to admit that my first response was that I hoped not. For those of us with allergies to sulfites — the preservative used in wine, some vinegars and dried fruits — all of this news about the wonders of wine leaves us (me) feeling a little bit left out.
But for the rest of you, this is great news. According to the article, the benefits seem to stem from a combination of the powerful antioxidants and the general stress reduction that comes from one glass of red wine for women or two for men at the end of the day.
For those of us who can’t drink wine, alternative foods high in polyphenols and antioxidants include pomegranates, blueberries and dark chocolate. Again, yet another situation where that chocolate might not be as much of a guilty pleasure as we thought!
