Babe Ruth Bars

Chocolate chips, peanut butter and crunch. Yum. *

There I was, the morning before my first-ever cookie extravaganza blowout. I had promised a dozen varieties but had made only 11. I was tired, sick of baking, and low on ingredients. That’s when I found this no-bake bar. I figured that it would just be a quick way to hit my goal of 12. And no, at that point I was not above cheating to reach my goal.

Making these is a lot like making Rice Krispy treats. I use the same bowl, same gear.


  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup white corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 6 cups corn flakes cereal
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup peanuts, chopped


Coat a 9×13 baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.

In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine peanut butter, corn syrup and sugars. Microwave for 1 minute, and then stir. Repeat process until the mixture is smooth.

Quickly mix in the cereal, chocolate chips and peanuts until evenly coated.

Press the mixture into the prepared 9×13 dish. Cool completely before cutting into bars.


I figured that with an arsenal of 11 cookies on the table, no one would touch these lumpy bars. Instead, it turned out to be one of the more popular items because they’re delicious. They’re also the least healthy thing I’ve ever made. Coincidence?
