Seasonal Eats: November

Choose heavy pomegranates with red skin for the sweetest, ruby-red seeds. And then let your pomegranate thief go wild.

The Tiny Kitchen Assistant loves pomegranate. Of course he does. Why wouldn’t he love a fruit that’s a complete pain to prepare? But things have gotten so much easier — and my clothes are much less spattered with red juice blotches — since I discovered the underwater seed removal method. Believe me when I tell you that it works, and will keep your clothes away from the dry cleaner.

The other day, much to my surprise, the Tiny Kitchen Assistant asked me to make “the pastas and beef in the oven.” That’s my spaghetti squash bake, but with browned ground beef (or bison, depending on what I have on hand) mixed in. Granted, he has no idea that it’s squash and not pasta, but I don’t care. He’s five years old and he actually asks for squash. My work here is done.
