The turnaround point for my run was more than the 1.5 miles that I'd estimated. Storm clouds were gathering.
When I packed for our trip to Florida, I brought my running shoes and my TRX, assuming that I’d use both. While the runners were used, the TRX never came out of its bag.
The Plan
- Monday: Off
- Tuesday: Run
- Wednesday:
TRX - Thursday: Disney walking
- Friday: Disney walking
- Saturday: Off
- Sunday:
Run
Ok, so maybe things didn’t quite work out as planned. We got in late on Sunday night, so I assumed that Monday would be a day to sleep in. Instead, I woke early but dehydrated from the flight, and spent the pre-dawn hours on the couch playing Words With Friends.
But on Tuesday, I set my alarm for 6:30, rolled out the door before the thunderstorm, and proceeded to run a 5.6-mile loop to the bridge. This is significant for two reasons: 1) holy cow, I’m not used to running in 99% humidity, and 2) I woefully misjudged the route that I believed to be about 3 miles. Learn from my mistakes and always map out your route when you’re in unfamiliar territory.
Wednesday would have been a great morning to take the TRX to the park, if only I’d remembered to set my alarm. By the time I woke, the boy was awake, too.
We were at Disney on Thursday and Friday, and while they have lovely running paths, there’s no earthly way that I’d be doing extra early-morning miles above and beyond the time spent on my feet at the park. As it was, my foot was protesting loudly for more than 48 hours, so my planned day off on Saturday really worked to my advantage. Sometimes, rest is what you need.
Of course, that doesn’t explain Sunday. I appear to have slept through my alarm this morning, only to be awakened by a cheerful 4-year-old boy whose face was mere millimeters from mine when he shouted, “Good morning, Mommy!” Good morning, sweetheart; Mommy’s just having a heart attack.
The schedule for the coming week is brutal. A late Monday flight leads into early Tuesday meetings and a packed schedule as I try to make up for lost time. I have no idea when, if or how I’m going to be able to fit my workouts in, and it looks like I’ll be away from kickboxing for at least the next few days.
