When our Santa Cruz friends suggested lunch at Betty Burgers, how could I say no? This place is supposed to be a Santa Cruz legend, and it’s easy to understand why.
Not only do they have fabulous burgers featuring the slightly disturbing “secret lube,” they also have tasty fries, sweet potato fries and fantastic ice cream from another Santa Cruz institution that I’d never experienced, Marianne’s.
I’m guessing that my lunch of a 1/3-pound burger, fries and “1020” ice cream — caramel ice cream with Oreo cookie crumbles and chocolate swirl — set me back about 3 bajillion calories for the weekend, but it was fabulous and worth every bite.
