What’s In Season? March

Maybe not the most glamorous of produce, but they do look lovely in bunches.

In California, March is when we start to teeter on the edge of Spring. It taunts us. Market sellers hawk the first strawberries, but you know that they’re no better-tasting than the ones from the supermarket because they’re not yet offering samples; samples and Spring officially kick off in April.

Towards the end of the month, we reach that sad period where Corn Man runs out of apples for the year, disappearing from view until after Memorial Day when corn season begins again.

I’ve never actually cooked radishes — I subscribe to the Betty tradition of raw radishes as munchies in a crudite — but I stumbled across this recipe for braised radishes from Rachael Ray that might be worth a try.

    Betty – the “real Betty” as E likes to say – never drank anything other than black coffee! It wasn’t an after dinner drink, it was the accompaniment to every meal.
