Training: Just Breathe

I’m writing this on the world’s slowest hotel internet connection, wondering if it will ever see the light of day. There will be no images because I can’t get enough bandwidth to upload.

The Plan

  • Monday: Gym
  • Tuesday: Kickboxing
  • Wednesday: Pilates Off
  • Thursday: Travel (off)
  • Friday: Travel (off)
  • Saturday: Travel (off)
  • Sunday: Travel (off)

I knew that I’d be traveling with the Tiny Kitchen Assistant from Thursday through Monday, so I had planned to cram as much exercise into my three capable days of Monday through Wednesday.

At kickboxing on Tuesday, I was winded. Really, really winded. Ok, so I’m still not back to normal, but I was really disappointed in my performance, particularly since I had to bail out about 45 minutes into class. I just couldn’t do it anymore. Turns out that I wasn’t necessarily out of shape: I spent Monday morning at the doctor being diagnosed with a respiratory infection. I walked out with a prescription for an antibiotic, inhaler and codeine cough medicine. Surprise!

Five days later, I’ve finished the Z-pack. Between antibiotic sluggishness and the high fat, high carb diet of all of my Philadelphia visits, I’ll likely have to roll myself into kickboxing on Tuesday morning.

The Tiny Kitchen Assistant offered to run with me while we’re traveling, but there’s really no good way to do that on icy sidewalks, particularly when you’re still paranoid about slipping, falling and breaking a bone. So I sit, eat another Tastykake and marvel at how different my life would have been if I’d remained in the northeast.
