Thanksgiving week probably isn’t the easiest week to try to get back into a routine. Thanksgiving week with a sick preschooler is even harder. It may not have been the ideal set of circumstances, but I got out there and did stuff, and felt much better for it.
The Week in Review
- Monday: Gym for 30 minutes of bike, 10 elliptical and 15 stretching
- Tuesday: Pilates
- Wednesday: Off
- Thursday: Standing/cooking (this counts as activity, right?)
- Friday: Mall walking
- Saturday: Walking
- Sunday: Off
I had a sick 4-year-old home on Wednesday. Because my husband was home, I had the luxury of deciding between going to the coffee shop and writing a white paper for money, or hitting the gym. I chose the former, assuming that there would be plenty of time for the latter. But frankly, after spending more than half of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on my feet in the kitchen, the thought of taking my achy and swollen foot to the gym just seemed absurd.
I tried to remind myself that just getting out and walking was an accomplishment, but there’s a fine line between “ugh, I feel lazy” and “maybe it would be sensible to give this foot a rest. I suspect that I’ve come down on the wrong side of that line more than once this week.
Common sense things that I need to remember:
- I spent eight weeks not using this foot. It’s going to take at least another eight to get it back to normal.
- When I’m tired, I should sit down.
- And when I forget #2, ibuprofen is my friend.
- Pack the high-heeled boots away for next year to avoid temptation, and look for a nice, flat, lace-up boot with extra stability to get me through the winter.
