With Thanksgiving less than a week away, it seems like the perfect time for my cranberry recipe. While I’ve always been a huge fan of cranberries in almost any form, I’m actually not all that fond of the orange zest recipes that seem to proliferate at this time of year. A few years ago, I decided to experiment with different flavors and decided that I liked this one the best. It just tastes like the holidays.
Ingredients
- 1 bag cranberries, washed
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup Trader Joe’s spiced apple cider*
Instructions
Heat cider and sugar in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Add the cranberries. Simmer for 10 minutes until cranberries burst.
Cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for up to a week.
Results
These cranberries are always well-received. They’re a little bit different than what you’d expect, but not so out-there as to be disappointing. The Tiny Kitchen Assistant isn’t a huge fan of cranberries, but will tolerate a little bit with his turkey.
* Note: No Trader Joe’s in your area? Make your own spiced cider by simmering cinnamon sticks, whole nutmeg and orange slices in a nice, fresh, cloudy apple cider.
