What’s in Season? September

Home grown tomatoes with a light dusting of fresh basil and sea salt.

In most of the country, the early days of September remind you that summer is drawing to a close. In northern California, September is still squarely in the summer season, leaving us more than a little bit surprised that the summer fruits have vanished from the market. Our “Corn Man” will be switching to apple sales by the second week of the month, and we’ll know for sure that summer has officially ended.

September is still salad season, with plenty of lettuce, spinach and tomatoes to go around. Toss your fresh lettuce with some leftover rotisserie chicken for a light meal on the last hot days of the season.
